Florida wants to become the first state in the nation to end all school vaccine mandates. That means children wouldn’t need measles, polio or chickenpox shots to attend class. Florida’s surgeon general calls mandates “immoral.” But doctors warn this could put kids at risk — pointing to recent measles outbreaks in Broward and across the U.S. Clara-Sophia Daly, education reporter at the Miami Herald, sat in front of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., now Secretary of Health and Human Services, on an airplane last week and asked him what he thinks of Florida’s decision to end vaccine mandates in the state. He declined to comment.  Parents in Florida have already been able to request a vaccine exemption for religious or medical reasons.  But if more parents choose not to vaccinate their kids, medical professionals warn it could reduce the effectiveness of vaccines that rely on herd immunity.  Governor DeSantis’ administration can get rid of some vaccine mandates, but to end all requirements for vaccines, lawmakers will need to approve. #miami #dade #florida #politics #josephladapo #rondesantis #donaldtrump #vaccine #mandate #risk 📹: Ashley Miznazi, Clara-Sophia Daly
